ROCKVILLE ROCKS Resource Distribution

National Prevention Week (NPW) is a week-long observance sponsored by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) to increase public awareness of, and action around, mental and/or substance use disorders.  It takes place annually in May.  During this week, the Coalition normally hosts the Rockville ROCKS Community Block Party. In lieu of that, to keep everyone safe, we have decided to adapt the event to be more accommodating to social distancing!

Tons of resources and information in the bags!

Project Director, Kaitlin Carafa, distributing the resources!

Coalition Chairperson, Michelle Hill, handing out the resources!

We adapted the event to safely hand out resources at VCMS drive-thru lunch program! The bags included resources pertaining to substance use prevention and mental health information!!! The event was extremely successful and distributed 174 bags!

In addition, NPW  focuses each day on the week on a different cause in an effort to raise awareness and provide resources.  To spread more awareness during the week, we partnered with The Change Collaborative of Manchester, and reserved a billboard on Highway 84 in between the two towns to display preventative messaging corresponding to each day!
